Toronto Brow Lift / Forehead Lift Surgeon – Dr. Kasrai

When you have frown lines and horizontal wrinkles on your forehead, they can make you look tired, sad, angry and older than you want to look. With help from Toronto cosmetic surgeon Dr. Kasrai, you can restore a more youthful facial appearance.

A brow or forehead lift smooths the skin on your forehead, correcting deep furrows and sagging brows, and gives you a younger, more relaxed and rested appearance. A brow lift can be performed at the same time as a facelift or eyelid surgery to maximize effectiveness. To see how you might look after a brow lift in Toronto, put your hands above the outer edges of your eyebrows and gently draw the skin back.

The Brow Lift Procedure

During a brow lift, Dr. Kasrai removes or alters the tissues that are causing drooping or deep furrows. She raises the eyebrows and smooths the forehead using one of three techniques: the direct approach, the temporal approach or the full coronal lift. The technique will be determined preoperatively, and is based on each Toronto forehead lift patient's brow position, the level of ptosis (sagginess), brow configuration and fat pad prominence. Most of the time, this procedure is done in conjunction with a facelift.

Direct brow lift. If you have bushy brows and mild sagging or droopiness, this mild lift may be an effective way to give you a more alert, refreshed appearance. Dr. Kasrai makes an incision directly above each eyebrow, elevates the brow into the desired position, then stitches the skin into place. This approach leaves a thin scar above the eyebrow, so it isn't recommended for people who have very thin eyebrows, since the scar will be more visible.

Temporal brow lift. This approach is a good alternative to repeated use of Botox®, and unlike other brow lift techniques, it also helps minimize crow's feet around your eyes. Dr. Kasrai makes two small incisions above your hairline, just above your temples. Using specialized instruments, she tightens the temporal fascia (a band that separates the muscle in the temple from the skin) and fastens it gently into place with surgical staples.

Full coronal brow lift. Ideal for brow lift Toronto patients with a normal to low hairline and significant sagging and wrinkling of the forehead. Dr. Kasrai makes an incision across the top of the scalp, within the hairline. (If you have a high or receding hairline, she may be able to make a higher incision to make your scar less conspicuous, but it's not always possible to leave an inconspicuous scar on a person with frontal baldness.) She carefully pulls back the forehead skin and modifies the muscles that are causing frown lines, removes excess skin, lifts the eyebrows, then closes the incision with stitches and clips.

The surgery is done on an outpatient basis at the surgical facility in St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto, Ontario, where Dr. Kasrai is the Chief of Plastic Surgery.

Aftercare for Forehead Lift Toronto Patients

Most Toronto brow lift patients don't experience significant discomfort; if you do, Dr. Kasrai will prescribe pain medication.

The day after surgery, we will remove the bandages and replace them with a lighter dressing, and you can start showering and washing your hair. Dr. Kasrai will give you specific instructions on how to gently care for your face and hair until it heals completely. Take it easy for a week or so, and get plenty of rest to let your body heal. You'll probably be ready to go back to work after a week or 10 days. (If bruises are still visible, you can cover them up with makeup).

After about two weeks, most of the bruising and swelling will have gone down. It's okay to go back to light activity at this point, but wait six weeks before resuming vigorous physical activity like running or weight lifting.

Risks of Surgery for Toronto Brow Lift Patients

All surgery carries some uncertainty and risk, but having a qualified Toronto brow lift surgeon such as Dr. Kasrai perform the procedure ensures that complications are rare. However, complications that can occur include:

  • Nerve damage (very rare) resulting in a loss of the ability to raise your eyebrows. Additional surgery may be able to correct it, or it may be permanent.
  • Formation of a broad scar (very rare), which can be treated surgically.
  • Hair loss along scar edges.
  • Loss of sensation along the incision line that is most often temporary, but can be permanent.
  • Infection and bleeding.

There is a higher risk of these complications in patients who are smokers, are diabetic or have poor circulation. You can reduce your risks by following Dr. Kasrai's instructions, and by not smoking.
