Toronto Rhinoplasty / Nose Reshaping – Dr. Leila Kasrai

As a highly skilled Toronto plastic surgeon, Dr. Kasrai understands that many people struggle with the size or shape of their nose, or have issues with obstructed breathing. Rhinoplasty can change the shape of a nose so that breathing becomes easier — and the nose can be altered into a more desirable shape.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures. It can make your nose bigger or smaller, change the shape of the tip or the rise of the bridge, make your nostrils smaller, change the angle of your nose, or correct a birth defect or injury. As a highly regarded Toronto rhinoplasty surgeon, Dr. Kasrai strives to achieve a natural look that suits your face; one where people won't necessarily notice you've had surgery, just realize you look better.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

When performing nose surgery in Toronto, Dr. Kasrai makes incisions inside the nostrils, and occasionally on the skin between the nostrils. She separates the skin from the bone and cartilage, sculpts it into the desired shape, then re-drapes the skin.

When your nose has been reshaped, Dr. Kasrai sutures the cartilage and skin into place, packs both nostrils with gauze, and applies a splint to help your nose maintain its new shape. The surgery is usually less than two hours, though complicated procedures may take longer.

Nasal surgery is done on an outpatient basis at the surgical facility in St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Depending on your preference, it can be done using local anesthesia and intravenous sedation, or under general anesthesia.

Aftercare for Toronto Nose Reshaping Patients

Right after surgery, Toronto rhinoplasty patients may feel sore or may have a headache. Dr. Kasrai will prescribe medication to relieve your discomfort. Stay in bed with your head elevated for the first 24 hours.

After 48 hours, Dr. Kasrai will remove the packing, and the split can come off after a week or two. You may experience a little bleeding or stuffiness – this is common. Don't rub or blow your nose for the first week, and be gentle when you wash your face. The swelling and bruising around your eyes should disappear after a couple of weeks. You should be able to get back to your normal activities after two weeks, but make sure you avoid strenuous activity for six weeks after your surgery.

Healing is slow and gradual – you may notice some very minor swelling for quite some time, and the final results may take up to a year.

Risks of Surgery for Toronto Rhinoplasty Patients

All surgery carries some uncertainty and risk; patients undergoing rhinoplasty may be at risk for infection, nosebleeds or reactions to anesthesia. However, having a qualified plastic surgeon, such as rhinoplasty Toronto surgeon Dr. Kasrai, perform the procedure ensures that complications are rare. There is a higher risk of complications in patients who are smokers, are diabetic or have poor circulation. You can reduce your risks by following Dr. Kasrai's instructions, and by not smoking.
