Arm Lift in Toronto – Dr. Leila Kasrai

Aging and weight loss can both cause what's unflatteringly known as “batwing;” saggy, unattractive upper arms that don't fit into narrow sleeves – and keep you from wearing sleeveless clothes, even in the height of summer. The arm lift (also known as brachioplasty) can remove excess skin and fat from under your arms, giving them a slimmer, more toned appearance.

The Arm Lift Procedure

When performing arm lift in Toronto, Dr. Kasrai makes an incision from the armpit to the elbow on the inside of your arm (keep in mind that you will have a long scar after your surgery). If there is excess fat, she uses liposuction to sculpt the shape of your arm, cuts away the extra skin, then stitches it into place. She is very careful to avoid the nerves, glands and veins in your upper arms.

After the procedure, your arms will be wrapped in surgical dressing and elastic bandages.

Under general anesthesia, brachioplasty is performed on Toronto arm lift patients on an outpatient basis at the surgical facility in St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto, Ontario, where Dr. Kasrai is the Chief of Plastic Surgery.

Aftercare for Toronto Brachioplasty Patients

Dr. Kasrai will prescribe pain medication to ease your discomfort over the first few days after surgery. You'll have some swelling and bruising for two weeks or so, and you'll have to wear a special compression garment for a week.

You can return to work after a week, but Dr. Kasrai recommends that all her Toronto arm lift patients do not lift anything heavy or do any vigorous exercise until your incisions are fully healed.

Risks of Surgery for Toronto Arm Lift Patients

All surgery carries some uncertainty and risk, but having a qualified Toronto arm lift surgeon, such as Dr. Kasrai perform the procedure ensures that complications are rare. However, occasional post-operative complications do occur. They can include swelling, bruising, bleeding, numbness (temporary or permanent) and infection. If the lymphatic vessels in your arms are damaged it can cause permanent swelling.

Scarring can be significant; although Dr. Kasrai is careful to place the scar on the inside of your arm so it can only be seen when you lift up your arm, many patients initially wear long-sleeved clothing to hide the scar.
