Toronto Breast Augmentation – Toronto Breast Implants Specialist – Dr. Kasrai

As a highly regarded Toronto breast implants specialist, Dr. Leila Kasrai has helped numerous Toronto breast augmentation patients achieve a shapelier, more feminine bustline. If you feel like your breasts are too small or don't have enough volume (this can happen after pregnancy or breastfeeding), breast implants can increase your natural size and help you achieve fuller breasts, more defined cleavage and a natural, attractive appearance that enhances your beauty and your self-esteem.

In a breast augmentation or enlargement, Dr. Kasrai places an implant behind the breast (either under the pectoral muscle or over it) to increase the size. In your initial consulation, she will help you determine the size and shape of your enhanced breasts. If you have a photo of the size and shape you're looking for, please bring it in - you may also want to bring in a stretchy sports bra to try on "sizers," which can help you determine what looks best on your body.

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

During the surgery, she will place the implants either in front of or behind your chest muscle, depending on your breasts and your desired outcome. The surgical approach and the location of the incisions will depend on the type of implant (saline or cohesive gel), and whether it's being placed in front or behind the muscle.

A small incision (about an inch long) is made in one of two inconspicuous places:

  • around the edge of the areola
  • under the breast crease

The surgery, which takes about an hour and a half to two hours, is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis at the surgical facility in St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto, Ontario, where Dr. Kasrai is the Chief of Plastic Surgery. If you are an out of town breast augmentation Toronto patient, overnight care can be arranged.

Aftercare for Toronto Breast Augmentation Patients

After her breast augmentation Toronto facility, Dr. Kasrai will apply a light bandage over the incision following surgery, and put you in a soft cotton sports bra, which you will wear 24/7 for the first few weeks. Postoperative discomfort should be minimal; you will have received pain medication towards the end of the procedure, and Dr. Kasrai will prescribe medication to alleviate any discomfort you may have in the first few days following your surgery. You can further soothe discomfort by applying ice packs (frozen peas work well).

We recommend that all Toronto breast augmentation patients take at least a week off the procedure to stay home and rest to increase the speed of healing and improve results. For that first week, move your arms as little as possible, refrain from lifting them above your head and avoid driving. If you have small children, you'll need to ask someone to help you with day-to-day activities. You should be able to get back to your regular activities in about 7-10 days, but avoid heavy lifting, vigorous exercise (especially upper body workouts) for about six weeks.

Risks of Surgery for Toronto Breast Augmentation Patients

With breast augmentation surgery, complications are unusual. However, all surgery carries some uncertainty and risk, but having a qualified breast implants Toronto surgeon, such as Dr. Kasrai, perform the procedure ensures that complications are rare. When occasional post-operative complications occur, they can include:

  • Capsular contracture (if the scar or capsule around the implant begins to tighten), which can make the breast feel hard. It can be treated with additional surgery.
  • Excessive bleeding, which can cause swelling and pain.
  • Infection around the implant, which may require removal of the implant until the infection clears.
  • Oversensitive or less sensitive nipples and numbness near incisions. (Usually disappears over time but may be permanent with some patients.)
  • Saline implants may break or leak occasionally, whether from an injury or normal movement. Should this happen, the saline will be harmlessly absorbed by your body. You will need to have another surgery to replace the implant.

There is a higher risk of these complications in patients who are smokers, are diabetic or have poor circulation. You can reduce your risks by following Dr. Kasrai's instructions, resuming activity after surgery, and by not smoking.
