Erase Wrinkles Without Surgery

In just minutes, you can address the visible signs of aging on your face. Dr. Leila Kasrai applies gentle techniques for minimal downtime.

Aging and the cumulative effects of environmental exposure make a huge impact on how your face looks. Once smooth and taut in your youth, deep wrinkles and creases have started to form. These visible signs of aging are particularly apparent when you smile and frown. Your brow has started to droop as well, making you look like you're unhappy all the time.

Botulinum Toxin Injections

Botulinum Toxin is available as Health Canada-approved injectable products that are made from a naturally-occurring, medically-safe protein produced by the Clostridium bacterium (onabotulinumtoxinA or abobotulinumtoxinA). They are injected into the facial muscles that are causing your wrinkles and creases to relax them, allowing your lines and furrows to diminish or disappear.

Unique point: making you look better, not unnatural or frozen

It's only natural for wrinkles and creases to form when you make certain facial expressions. Could you imagine if you didn't have any wrinkles at the corners of your eyes when you smiled? By erasing them entirely, it could make you look like you're happiness isn't genuine. Even if your feelings are honest, your face may tell a different story and reflect badly on the people you talk to.

That's why my goal when performing your treatment is to avoid totally erasing your wrinkles and creases. I want you to still be able to express your emotions after your treatment, and you can't if you have an unnaturally stiff and frozen appearance!

Unique point: a gentle technique

One of the most commonly experienced side effects is swelling and bruising, which aren't caused by the product. These side effects are primarily associated with the injection technique.

My refined injection techniques have been designed to administer the accurate number of units to smooth away your unwanted wrinkles, without causing unnecessary swelling and bruising. While you may still experience some, it won't be as significant. This allows your results to appear sooner.

The main reasons why results aren't achieved is when too much product is administered, or if the right muscles aren't targeted. – Dr. Leila Kasrai

What will happen during your treatment

Some topical numbing cream in the areas you want to have treated can be applied before the injection to help improve your comfort.

The desired number of units is reconstituted with solution, then gently injected. Usually, a couple of injections are made to get all of the muscles involved in contributing to the wrinkle or crease.

Recovering from your injection

  • You should experience minimal discomfort, bruising and swelling that gradually subsides over a few days.
  • Avoid touching the treated area or performing rigorous physical activity for a day or two
  • Your results can take up to two weeks to appear.

A fresher look

It can take a few days for the results of your treatment to appear. You'll notice that gradually, your wrinkles and creases will smooth out and you'll have a fresher, well-rested appearance while still being able to smile and form other facial expressions naturally.

Injectable fillers can also be administered to erase wrinkles and creases that are permanently etched on your face.

Frequently asked questions

What is onabotulinumtoxinA or abobotulinumtoxinA?

Both are injectable products that erase wrinkles that form when you make certain facial expressions, like smiling and frowning. The active ingredient is botunlinum toxin, a substance that inhibits the muscles from contracting. A measured amount is injected to safely relax the muscles.

Are they safe?

Yes, for decades products containing botulinum toxin have been used in medicine to treat a wide variety of issues, most of which are functional rather than aesthetic.

How much do I need?

With these products, less tends to be more. It is important that only a small amount is used to prevent that unnatural frozen look. You'll be told how much will be administered before your treatment, and if it's not sufficient, you can get more. The amount of your dose is measured in units. A vial contains 100 units.

Who will perform my treatment?

Dr. Kasrai, a female plastic surgeon, will perform your treatment.

What should I do to prepare for my injection?

They are relatively simple treatments to perform for a plastic surgeon. They don't require much preparation for the patient to do. One of the most important things to do is to make sure that you've stopped taking any medications and supplements that thin the blood, like aspirin. This will reduce how much you bleed and bruise afterward.

Do you treat first time patients?

Absolutely. First time patients will be glad to know that Dr. Kasrai is very gentle. If you're a first time patient, the amount administered will be on the conservative side. This is just so that we can see how the product takes.

When will I see my results?

It generally takes about four days to a week to see results, but some patients may need to wait up to two weeks. How fast your results appear tend to be based on the amount of swelling and bruising you experience.
